Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester

The Forester is one of the best vehicles which Subaru has to offer, primarily because of the fact that it can be safely driven in any and every type of weather. Including a huge array of options, some incredible features, a standard all wheel drive and an optional turbo engine, the Forester is our most favorite family car of the year.

The detailed designing of the Subaru Forester makes it stand out beautifully. The styling might appear to be a bit dull to some of you because of its boxy look. But inside that box, Subaru has engineered a smart and family perfect car. Thin roof pillars, large windows, a huge cargo space and excellent visibility all around, the Subaru Forester 2014 is an easy and safe to drive car. And not to forget the technological features on board such as the EyeSight collision avoidance system and active cruise control. Factor in the cameras, and the Forester becomes a car that watches the way, assists you in staying in the lane and offers a cruise control system which you can use in heavy traffic; the control system limits the speed, but then it's supposed to be used in a traffic jam only.

Specifications

The Subaru Forester is available with two different engines: a 4 cylinder engine with 170 HP or a turbocharged engine with 250 HP. Both engines feature horizontal cylinders, which according to Subaru, lower the center of gravity, making handling easier.

The most basic version of the Subaru is the Forester 2.5 I, which features a manual transmission mode. Should you pay an extra amount, you can also get the CVT mode. The 2.5i Premium Subaru has pretty much the same features as the basic version, except for the aluminum alloy wheels. If you opt for a CVT 2.5i Premium, you also get to enjoy a navigation system, power moonroof and winter prep package. Other available versions are 2.5 I Limited, 2.5i Touring, 2.0XT Premium and 2.0XT Touring.

Strengths

The biggest strength of the Subaru Forester is probably the outward visibility, which is by far the best, in all family cars. There is a backup camera on board too, but the visibility is so good that you would hardly ever need to use it. Unlike other cars, there are no backup sensors or blind spot detection technology, but trust us; you are not going to need them.

Weaknesses

The Subaru Forster does have some shortcomings such as the noise when you are driving on the highway and the small radio buttons. But whatever the drawbacks, they are not that significant and get overshadowed when you consider the pros.

Despite its flaws, the Subaru Forester is a solid car for us that is worth buying. If you are interested, you can come visit us at Kelly Risk Free in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Emmaus. Believe it or not, we have seen models that have been driven for over 400,000 miles are still in a really good condition. The question is how did Toyota achieve this in the Camry? Mitsubishi Outlander

Mitsubishi Outlander

It has not been so long since you bought a used Mitsubishi Outlander, but despite that the value of your car seems to be falling off at a really surprising rate. Why is that? Because your Mitsubishi Outlander is depreciating due to a number of factors.

What is depreciation?

Depreciation can be defined as the difference in value of your car when you purchased it and the value of your car when you plan to sell it off. The difference varies depending with your car's make and model. On an average, it is around 15% to 35% in the first year. By the third year, the value falls by as much as 50% or even more.

We suggest that you should buy a car which can hold its value over the long run. Most car buyers focus on the fuel efficiency in trying to save costs, but more important than that is depreciation.

Which cars can hold their value?

A recent survey evaluates 34 car manufacturers and highlighted the top vehicles which held their value the most in 2014. Mini cars topped the list with the average depreciation value being 16.4% annually. On the second slot was Land Rover with the annual depreciation value at 17%. Toyota and Honda were third and fourth, depreciating at a rate of 17.5% and 17.9%, respectively.

What factors affect the depreciation rate?

The deprecation rate is affected by a number of factors, which are given below.

Mileage

On an average, your car's mileage should be around 10,000 per year. If it is greater than this, your car will depreciate at a faster rate.

Reliability

There are certain makes and models, which have a reputation of not being so reliable. If you have any of these cars, the value will not hold off well in the time to come.

Owners

The fewer owners a vehicle has, the better it is. You can find out information about the past owners of any car by going through the V5C registration or the log book.

General Condition

A car that has been well maintained and has not suffered from an extensive amount of damage does not depreciate at a fast rate. This includes the interior, exterior and the body of the car.

Service History

Service history is an important factor when used cars are being considered. The more detailed the history is, the less a car will depreciate. Go through the service book, and make sure that all services have been carried out according to the manufacture's recommendation. There should be stamps and receipts as well to serve as proof.

How can you minimize depreciation?

  • Conduct a thorough search when you buy a car.
  • Go for a recent model which does not have many miles on the odometer.
  • Maintain your car properly.

So do you want to buy a used car that will hold off its value well? At Kelly Risk Free, we have a huge number of cars with low depreciation rates. Come visit us in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Emmaus!

Buick Regal

Are you looking around for a used car within an affordable price range? The Buick Regal 2015 or any older model is one of your best choices. Among the main features of the vehicle are its sporty handling and an impressive interior design. The car may not have enough backseat, but other pros do make up well for this.

The Engine

The Buick Regal features a four cylinder engine which offers powerful and smooth acceleration and a fuel capacity of 2 liters. The engine is capable of producing 259 HP, but that is not the best part. Buick Regal has an incredible fuel economy, which can help you bring down your mileage costs significantly, provided you go with eAssist, which is a mild hybrid powertrain. The engine is still four cylinder, but now features greater fuel capacity at 2.4 liters. In addition, there is an electric engine as well, which can deliver a horsepower of about 182.

The engine operates seamlessly, but Buick could have made the speed a bit better; the car may not that be quick in some cases. As for the ride; it is comfortable, smooth and quiet.

Fuel Economy

The fuel economy for the standard Regal car is around 21 mpg for the city and 30 for the highway, which is not very impressive. With Regal eAssist, the fuel economy rises to 25 mpg for the city and 36 mpg for the highway, which is quite good for a midsize car.

The Interior

The interior of the Buick Regal is probably one of its best parts, featuring an appealing design and superior quality materials. The controls on the dashboard have been set up in an intuitive way and the front seats are quite supportive.

The only problem with the interior is perhaps the reduced rear visibility because of the sloping roofline, which also limits the head space in the rear compartment. The trunk is large than that seen in an average car and offers a substantial amount of space. But in the eAssist model, the trunk space is lesser because the battery takes up some part of it.

Notable Features

The Buick Regal has a number of features on board such as Bluetooth, rearview camera, smartphone app integration, touch screen display, OnStar with a 4G Wi-Fi hot spot and satellite radio.

Versions

There are five different versions of the Buick Regal: base, Premium I, Premium II and GS trims. All the versions vary a bit in design and features, but are pretty much the same in terms of performance. The standard includes a six speed automatic transmission mode. A manual six speed mode is featured in the GS version. The drive for the standard model is front wheel, but there is also an option of all-wheel drive.
